It's gonna blow! Are you kidding me, Paul? That trailer looked like
a big piece of elephant shit hand smeared across a length of
celluloid! And the little kid? What the hell is up with that?
Ooooh, I'm so scared of the little Darth Vader to be....ooooo, watch
out, he may throw a cute little ewok doll at me!!!
They should have shown a shot of Ewan McGreggor as Obi-Wan crawling
into a space toilet because that's the only place this sorry excuse
for a film is going to end up! The only thing missing is a cute
cuddly animated character to sell happy meals with - oops, wait a
minute, they've got one of those don't they?
And the music?! What, doesn't John Williams know how to write any
other chords and melody lines? Crap, crap, crap!!
I think anyone who believes this movie is going to be good should be
lined up at the nearest doctors office to have their freaking heads
examined! It's the next Waterworld with a bit of Ishtar thrown in for
good measure!
Okay, now, you didn't REALLY think I was serious about all that, did
you? After that whole Saving Private Ryan thing, I thought I'd just
get you fired up a little before coming clean.
I haven't had a chance to see the trailer in the theatre, but I did
download it from CNN's website, so I was able to go through it clip by
clip and pause it to get some good looks at everything. I agree with
everything you said about it, even if I'm not quite as big a fan of
the series as you are. Don't get me wrong, I'm there with bells on,
but growing up, my interest levels wanned somewhat from film to film.
Star Wars was excellent, Empire great, Jedi so-so. Each one excelled
at technical achievements, and it looks as if this one will do the
same. I just hope that the plot and story line improves over Jedi,
which I think sold out to marketing and McDonalds with its too cutsie
ewoks and such. I'll accept your caution and agree that I hope any
jokes thrown in are few and good, not dumb and plentiful.
You really get a good feel for the look, mood, and characters of this
film in the trailer, but not much of the plot, other than the obvious
connections with Anikan and Obi-Wan (rumor has it that Obi-Wan might
actually be a clone left over from the Clone wars and took his name
from OB1, the model number of the original clone he was duplicated
from?). So getting back to plot, I'm really praying for good story
here. I know that it might be a little difficult to have three
complete movies with 3 acts and a sense of completion and the end of
each one (see Empire Strikes Back's ending...), but I'll forgive this
for strength in script, plot, and characters. One thing I'm sure this
movie will have going for it over the original Star Wars is the
acting. All real first rate talent here. As with you, I'm real
excited to see Samuel Jackson and Liam Nieson(sp?) in action.
Couldn't tell if that was a double bladed lightsaber, or if he was
holding two of them end to end? Might be dangerous if it was double
bladed, could easily slice off their legs below the knees if not
careful! The other points I mentioned though, (look, mood,
characters) all look fabulous. There is definately some exciting
stuff happening here. And no, the CGI stuff doesn't bother me a bit.
As I said, each film outdid the one before technically, so why
shouldn't this one? A bigger, badder, better Star Wars movie, just
like the additions they made to the originals. If anything, THIS
should have bothered people more than anything they'd see in a brand
new movie. Bring it on!
Okay, so I've rambled on quite a bit about this, probably because I'm
so eagerly awaiting it's release, but I'm also taking care to not get
too many spoilers about the very same plot and story I hope is so
strong because when I was a kid, all my asshole friends at the time
got to see each film before me, then ruined any big plot elements.
I'll never forget when Marvel comics released the comics version of
Empire about a month before the film actually came out, and one of my
idiot friends buys it and proceedes to tell me that Darth Vader is
Luke Skywalker's father! What an ass!
By the way, I found out that Luke Skywalker is really Darth Vader's
great grandfather. At the end of Phantom Menace he comes back in time
to before the movie even starts to unknowingly impregnate his own
great great grandmother in an evil plot by the Sith Lords to rectify
their lack of heir to the throne, who will then be cloned and brought
to the alternate universe of Star Wars 7, 8, and 9, which are to be
released in between Star Wars 1 and 2, but before 3. I think the
actual order is 1, 9, 7, 2, 8, then 3. They should ALL be released by
2037, just in time for a re-release of Star Wars' 50th aniversary.
Can't wait!!
Tooch.
HERE COME DA COMMENTS!!!
W'sup bro? Trailer kicks massive ass, no question! A few thoughts...Liam Neeson's character is a Jedi Master whose name I cannot for the life of me remember. But it's something that's a real bitch to pronounce. I think he's mentioned in the latest issue of 'Cinescape'. Certain of it. There is a dark figure that you see in the doorway of the Jedi Council Chamber during the preview. I believe he eventually puts his hands on young Anakin's shoulders. He's probably Senator Palpatine. My guess is that he's only starting to rise to power in the Old Republic Senate and sees young Anakin as his linchpin in consolidating his power.
I gotta tell ya tho', I still think Yoda looks like a muppet. I was hoping they could have worked on that a little.
At some point in the series, they're going to have to deal with The Clone Wars which eventually maimed Anakin. Probably won't happen until Episode three. Interesting comment about the demonic looking guy with the sabre-staff. At some point in the series they have to provide some backround on the lords of the sith. If you want some more backround on sith lore, read ANY of the Darkhorse: Tales of the Jedi comics about the Jedi of 4000 years in the past. I'm currently reading a title called Redemption which deals with Ulic Qel Droma, who left the Jedi Knights to defeat the Dark Side, became corrupted by it, and betrayed/killed thousands of Jedi Knights in the ensuing war that took place. Great stuff. Hope all is kickin' ass with you and yours.
Later Matt
