Paula gotz commentz!

Oooh, can't wait for your Oscar rant! I by-and-large
agree with your comments. I also loved "Patriot",
"Gladiator" was awesome, "Traffic" pulled me into the
theatre twice (largely due to Benicio Del Toro and
general fantastic filmmaking) and "Billy Elliot" made
me laugh and cry joyously. "Crouching Tiger" was
pretty special too.
As for "Cast Away", I loved Tom Hanks (as I always do)
but I didn't think the script lived up to either his
performance or the movie's concept.

Anyway - please, Oscar rant away!
Love,
Paula

Tim chimes in from Upstate NY

I'm glad you gave at least a runner up nod to My Dog Skip. I thought that
the movie was a gem. The story was perfect for every audience. I think
Charlotte, my five year old, really understood that she was seeing a good
movie, and talks about even now, months later. As for Frankie, he's one of
the kids you hope never grows up, he's so fun to watch. He even has me
watching Malcolm in the Middle.

Until your next rant,

Tim

Adam has a serious point

I finally saw something you reviewed, I have been such a shit about seeing movies. I mean a TOTAL shit. But this summer begs the ol' see all of 'em theory, just for the hell of it. Except for that Edward Burns film coming out, I don't do Burns.
Anway, though I loved The Phantom Menace, didn't you think Crouching Tiger was everthing Episode 1 could've been change the name of their style to "Jedi" and change those swords to lightsabres and I would've praised Lucas as Christ II. Just a thought.
And Traffic, I love Soderbergh more than anyone should (The Limey!), but I didn't care what happened to anyone in that movie. I can't believe I hung out with those people for three hours.
Didn't like Unbreakable, for shame super-hero movie lover, for shame.
Take care you Krazy Kalifornians,

Mark the Crazy Aussie squeezes a review between the f-word! Seriously, if you don't like that word...forgive him, he's Australian...

Fucking hell Paul,
You seem to have to much time on your hands....
I am a movie freak so I will reply in short....some of
these films have not come out in Australia yet, though
I will tell you what I thought of the others...
firstly on your list of movies you haven't seen, If
you see the movie loser, then I will swim there and
kick the shit out of you. It was the worst fucking
movie I have ever seen, besides "the case of the
smiling stiffs" which I won't even bother explaining.
Ok...

10. GLADIATOR - YES fucking oath....it's a whopper of
a film.
9. THE PATRIOT - I agree, also a fucking good
movie....had everything....

> 6. ERIN BROCKOVICH - Hallelulia!! If she doesn't win
the oscar, then I will roll in my own shit and wear my
grannies dirty undies on my head for a week.
> 5. BILLY ELLIOT - Holy shit!! what a movie, It is
rare to have such a feeling of WOW at the end of any
movie.....and this did!!
> 4. CAST AWAY - I didn't want to like this because he
might take the oscar away from Crowe, but it was
fucking good.
> 2. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON - I got the shits
when they were fighting in the trees, but the rest was
absolutely brilliant.

Almost famous......very very good.....
Unbreakable......Fucking terrible.....enough to make a
shepherd fuck his dog!!

And that is about it from me, thankyou for joining me
today and hope you come back soon
Mark

Brian's Top 10

Here it is Paul,

Please remember that I have not seen Crouching Tiger, Erin Brokovitch, or other key movies this year, but of the 25 or so that I saw, here is my top 10.

10. Me, Myself and Irene
Carrey was great and the three brothers stole the show. I loved it.
9. Oh Brother, Where Art Thou
As much as I usually do not like George Clooney, this film was very well done. Would have ranked higher, but a bit predictable at the end.
8. Wonder Boys
I think it made my 1999 list too, but I guess it is fair game for this year as well. Downey Jr. was excellent.
7. Pay It Forward
Great movie that evoked emotion from me (ie, i cryed). Nice twist at the end of the movie that one did not expect.
6. Billy Elliot
A movie of someone's hope during a time of family termoil. Great film.
5. Traffic
Good writing and performances. Great stuff.
4. Meet the Parents
Bobby D. and Ben Stiller were excellent in this comedy that was very well done.
3. Cast Away
Hanks was the movie and he was spectacular.
2. Best In Show
The mocumentary format still kills me. Guest and Levy are at their best and Willard was nothing short of a riot.
And.....
1. Almost Famous
Great peek into the world of touring and music. A wonderful adventure for a sheltered teen.

Just missed the top 10: The Tao of Steve, The Whole Nine Yards, and Emperor's Groove

Worst 3 films of 2000:
3. Sixth Day
2. The Family Man (go deeper damn it!)
1. Mission: Impossible 2 (Damn right it was impossible, like skidding for 200 feet on your knee when going 70 miles an hour is impossible).

Doug's favorite of 2000

Hey Kids,

Months ago, when you released your movies 2000 review, I think I had
seen one of the top ten and a few others; Gladiator, Croupier, Chicken
Run. I’ve just reviewed the list and since have seen a couple more:
CTHD, Traffic, Almost Famous.

But still, at the time I could only think of one movie about which I
could say, “I loved that movie.” In fact, I read the book and just
watched the DVD twice (including all the deleted scenes). And I still
say to myself, “I love this movie.” I didn’t just enjoy this movie
because I watched in a top quality theater while cruising though the
Bahamas. It’s a great movie.

Best Movie of 2000, and therefore the decade.

Envelope Please

[drum roll]

HIGH FIDELITY

Sure, it’s about a loser, music collector not unlike myself.
But still..

The last two scenes:

1. The Jack Black character nails” Let’s Get it On” to the amazement and
delight of everyone on screen and in the theater. This is simply a
joyous scene.
2. Rob (John Cusak) describes how to make a great mix tape (specifically
the tape he’s making for Laura). You’ve got to start out strong and
then kick it up a notch. Then he slips on the headphones and the
soundtrack fills the theater with Stevie Wonder’s “I Believe.”

Man!
That just sends chills down my spine.

Anyway, hope you’re enjoying your new place.
Hope there is enough room when Michele and I visit.

I think tonight I’m finally going to see Memento.

GBYGBA,
